English abstract:
Irène Némirovsky's 'Suite Française': A Novel with the Inscription of Its Times
Irène Némirovsky was a novelist from the first half of the 20th century who has recently been recovered as a modern French classic. Her Suite Française received the Renaudot award quite posthumously in 2004. The book carries an exceptional history: it was written in 1942, shortly before the author, a Jewish Russian exile, was deported to the gas chambers. But the book had been sadly overtaken by history before its publication, sadly enough, as it concentrates on the meanness of everyday life while overlooking the great historical crimes. Keywords: Novel, French literature, Occupation, Holocaust, Nazism, Second World War, Irène Némirovsky, Jewish writers
